I have been working on the young witch's herbology/ potion room and having a great time abusing the wallpaper and ceiling. I started with a normal damask and used a fine grade sandpaper to take off the sheen. Next, I created rips and tears and tea stained the exposed white areas.
Under the wallpaper is a dark cement like wall. I tried my hand at staining it and marking it up a bit. I think I could go a little further, but don't want to over do it.
I purchased some white, unfinished skulls from a seller on etsy and were very happy with them. I used dark wood stain and the primer and then went over each skull with diluted white paint. For the exceptionally low price, I think I may add a few more.
I am now about 1/3 finished with the room and have loads of trim and details to add. Here is a shot of where I am. Regretfully, a flashlight and an iPhone do not make for a spooky mood. I can't wait to put in the lights!
Hello Gayle,
ReplyDeleteYou are brave to age the wallpaper as you did. I don't think I'd have the nerve. it will add a lot of atmosphere to your room.
Big hug,
Giac
It is going to be another wonderful room.
ReplyDeleteDon't get mad at me... I see a different sort of floor. Tile or flag stone comes to mind.
Heavens, why would I get mad? I LOVE feedback, especially from someone as talented as yourself.
DeleteI agree with you 100%, by the way. My problem is that I never plan anything in advance. I had imagined that the young girl and her father purchased the pub with living area above and made it into what they needed. Initially, the "laboratory" was supposed to be a parlor and the "herbolgy room" a girl's bedroom.
I had even glued in the walnut flooring in anticipation of making a cute little bedroom. But as I started to work on structure, I realized that there was no way I was going to enjoy making normal rooms. I didn't want to repeat my first house and do another witch, but heck, I finally gave in.
I know it sounds crazy, but I imagined that this girl was given free reign of the upstairs and she took a perfectly nice parlor and bedroom and made them into what she needed. I want to warp the floor a bit, to make it look like it was once a pretty little room, but has now been ruined by the moisture and animals that run about freely.
I really do fear for my sanity sometimes.
